Crazy Horse is a silent, narrative short movie on hand-processed 16mm film about father and daughter who aren’t speaking to one another, stuck together in a van crossing South Dakota. They encounter monuments detailing hundreds of years of problematic American History, and arrive at some sort of provisional truce with one another at a deserted crossroads, far from civilization.
Our crew of six made the pilgrimage to Crazy Horse in June, during the only two days when climbing up to his face is allowed. Our week-long journey closely mirrored the trip of the father and daughter. The film was shot with an antique Bolex 16mm camera and the footage was processed by hand in a darkroom, giving the footage its rough, uneven, ahistorical texture.
