Half tour documentary and half surreal dreamscape, “Aberdeen” follows the Brass Messengers, an 11-member hippie-gypsy-punk ensemble based in Minneapolis, across the landscape of South Dakota to a performance in the strange and scrappy small town of Aberdeen.
This film was created in collaboration with Kristen Froebel, who plays the alto saxophone in the band, and who discovered a warehouse full of broken musical instruments in the small town of Aberdeen, SD, where her bandmate’s brother owns a mattress factory converted into an art collective and performance space. The film is constructed to showcase the oddity of these juxtapositions and to serve as a portrait of the band members themselves.
